The Directorate has responsibility for a broad range of Scottish Government policies relating to police and fire & rescue services reform, operational policing, reducing fire deaths and injuries, emergency planning & response, reducing violent and anti-social behaviour and reducing problem drug use.

Purpose

To make a postive difference to the lives of the people of Scotland where people are safe, our communities are strong and resilient, and high quality public services are there when they are needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering modern, fit for purpose Scottish Police & Fire Services through public sector reform
  • Tackle serious organised crime by delivering the Serious Organised Crime Strategy and the Scottish Crime Campus project
  • Policy on operational policing matters including sex offender management, firearms control, DNA and finger print retention
  • Reduce problem drug use and support recovery from drug problems through delivering the Road to Recovery strategy and implementing the HEAT target for access to treatment
  • Reduce violence and anti-social behaviour by developing innovative approaches, including through the Cashback programme.
  • Strengthening community and national resilience planning by developing the capacity and capability of statutory responders and supporting individuals, organisations and local organisations to develop their own resilience
  • Further reduce fire deaths and injuries by implementing the recommendations of Scotland Together and publicity campaigns such as 'Don't Give Fire a Home'.
