Why is this HEAT target important?
To provide professional and clinical leadership in reducing Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) in hospitals and other settings ensuring safe and effective care and systems as well as maximising healthcare outcomes for patients.
How are we performing?
Targets due for delivery in 2012/13
MRSA/ MSSA reductions
The target is to achieve a reduction in the infection rate of staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia (including MRSA) cases to 0.26 or less per 1,000 acute occupied bed days by March 2013.
For the year ending December 2011, the rate of MRSA/MSSA cases across NHSScotland was 0.32 per 1,000 acute occupied bed days.
