Scotland's medal rush

16/08/2008

Congratulating Scottish cyclists Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar, who won respective gold and silver medals in the men's Keirin track cycling at the Beijing Olympics today, First Minister Alex Salmond hailed their historic achievement:

"This is a fantastic achievement for Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar, and Scotland's greatest sporting moment at the Olympics of all time - with Scots winning a gold and silver in the same event. This was the 'Braveheart final', and Chris and Ross did Scotland proud.

"Chris Hoy is now Scotland's most successful Olympian, as well as one of our best ever athletes. We all hope that he hits a hat trick and gains a third gold in his final event, the men's track cycling sprint, next week."
