Dear Colleague
FAMILIES OUTSIDE LEAFLET - INFORMATION ON HOME LEAVE FOR FAMILIES
I am forwarding copies of an information leaflet about Home Leave which was prepared by the voluntary organisation, Families Outside. This is related to the new integrated practice guidance on home leave that was issued on 14 February 2007 ( JD Circular 1/2007). The Home Leave Working Group, with members representing the Scottish Prison Service, the Association of Directors of Social Work, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland, the Scottish Executive Justice Department and the Voluntary Sector agreed that a national leaflet would be helpful in explaining the home leave process to families.
Paragraph 59 of the practice guidance states that the criminal justice worker should give those living at the home address the national leaflet as the individuals concerned might find this a useful source of reference after the worker has completed the visit. The worker is also required to advise those living at the address how they can access support, advice or information during (or after) the period of home leave.
Therefore I would be grateful if you could ensure that the leaflet is brought to the attention of appropriate staff, especially those who are directly involved in the home leave process or others who may have an interest in it.
