In January 2009, the UK Government published the Digital Britain Review Interim Report. In addition to public service broadcasting, this review also encompasses a wide range of other areas - notably the use and take-up of broadband technology.
The Scottish Government responded to the Digital Britain Review on March 12, 2009. The government's response welcomed the Interim Report's proposal to introduce a universal service commitment for broadband access, and the clear recognition of the need to secure adequate provision of public service broadcasting content for Scotland.
It stressed the Scottish Government's view that a good choice of quality public service broadcasting in Scotland could best be secured through a Scottish digital network, as recommended by the Scottish Broadcasting Commission.
