Social housing is housing owned by either a local authority or a registered social landlord (RSL) - generally housing associations. Managing housing for their tenants is an important activity for landlords. This includes the allocation of housing to new and existing tenants; providing appropriate tenancy agreements and managing these; organising repairs; providing housing support, information and advice and, where necessary, addressing problems between neighbours. In February 2012, we launched our consultation Affordable Rented Housing: Creating flexibility for landlords and better outcomes for communities which proposes to give greater flexibilities to social landlords in how they allocate and manage social housing. The consultation is now closed.
