Housing (Scotland) Act 2010

Social housing plays a vital part in providing a secure, sustainable alternative to owner-occupation.

The Housing (Scotland) Act safeguards social housing for future generations by reforming the Right to Buy and improve value for tenants and taxpayers by modernising social housing regulation.

Some of the provisions of the Act came into force in spring 2011; the remainder will be in force by 1 April 2012.

Housing Bill Sounding Board

The Minister for Housing and Communities established a sounding board for different organisations to exchange views on the Bill. The board also considered possible amendments that could be made to strengthen and improve the Bill. The board met six times between March and October 2010.
