Local Healthcare Associated Infection Monitoring

Local information on monitoring and surveillance of healthcare associated infections is published and held by NHS Boards.

In addition, Boards publish monthly updates of local surveillance data on their websites. These are broken down by hospital and include numbers of CDI and MRSA cases, as well as data on compliance with hand hygiene and cleaning standards. These are presented at board meetings on a bi-monthly basis and published on board websites. Each NHS Board carries out a wide range of monitoring and the results are reported using a national HAI Reporting Template (HAIRT).

These data are not validated in the same way as national surveillance programmes and should therefore be treated with caution. However, they do provide a more up to date snapshot of HAI at the local hospital level.
