Wheelchair and Seating Services Project Board

Welcome to the Wheelchair and Seating Services Modernisation Website where papers and information relating to the project are located.

The Scottish Government has supported the modernisation of NHS Wheelchair Services in Scotland through developing an Action Plan for modernisation that was published in March 2009.

This plan supports closer working with other health and social care equipment providers to reduce duplication of effort and resource; it supports a tiered model of service provision with development of skills for local service delivery and prescription; it advocates a standard assessment; it uses existing case management approaches for complex cases and promotes more robust development of care pathways with service users at the centre.

Local activity in service improvement to support these aims includes:

  • setting up of Health Board wheelchair user and carer groups or networks
  • local/satellite clinic development (paediatric and adult)
  • programme of equipment and fleet renewal
  • alignment to 18 week target for assessment to provision
  • more responsive maintenance and repairs services

A national User Satisfaction Survey was carried out in Jan / Feb 2010 and findings can be found here:
