Timber Harvested

A total of 7.6 million m3 overbark standing of timber was harvested from forests in Scotland in 2010. This represents a increase of 16% from the previous year. Over the longer term, the quantity of timber harvested has increased relatively steadily since the early 1990s.

The last forecast of softwood conifer production (produced in 2006) indicated that timber availability would rise from an annual average of 6.9 million m3 in the period 2007-2011, to 8.2 million m3 in 2012-2016 and 8.9 million m3 in 2017-2021. Current hardwood production is around 50 thousand m3, but more could be produced if markets were available.
