Crimes Involving a Firearm
In 2010-11, Scottish police forces recorded 643 offences in which a firearm was alleged to have been involved, a decrease of 24% from 2009-10. The number of offences in which a firearm was discharged and subsequently caused fatal or non-fatal injury to a person decreased by 28% from 154 in 2009-10 to 111 in 2010-11.
Over the last 10 years, air weapons have consistently been the most commonly identified weapon used in recorded offences involving a firearm.

(1) There have been a number of changes to how weapons are identified in recent years. Also, from 2005-06 there was a clarification of the scope of the return which is expected to have increased the numbers in certain crime categories and weapon types.
