Racist Incidents
The definition of a racist incident as given by Sir William MacPherson in his Report on the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry is "any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person."
The total number of racist incidents recorded by the police in Scotland decreased by four per cent from 5,143 in 2008-09 to 4,945 in 2009-10. The number of crimes recorded decreased from 6,615 crimes in 2008-09 to 6,452 crimes in 2009-10, a decrease of two per cent.
