Housing Statistics for Scotland

The Housing Statistics for Scotland web tables contain a range of time series and summary tables available to download in Excel format. The tables were last updated on 16 March 2012 and include data on housing activity in Scotland up to 30 September 2011 or 31 December 2011 for social sector new build.

The Housing Statistics for Scotland 2011: Key Trends Summary, originally published on 30 August 2011, contains an overview of the topics covered in the web tables. Please note that this summary was updated in February 2012 following the revision of figures relating to local authority eviction actions. These revised figures have also been included in the relevant tables below.

Recent Updates and Forthcoming Publications

8 May 2012

  • A revision has been made to some of the lettings figures for 31 March 2011 originally published on 30 August 2011. It was found that these figures were tabulated incorrectly. The figures affected are “Vacancies in LA stock for which nominations from other landlord's waiting lists invited”, “Lettings made as a result of nomination of an applicant on register to another landlord's stock” and “Total tenancy changes within the LA stock”. The published tables have now been revised and are available at the following link: lettings tables. None of these revised statistics are referenced outwith these tables and therefore the housing trends bulletin and other explanatory text remains unchanged.

16 March 2012

  • Web tables updated to end December 2011 (for social sector new build and affordable housing quarterly series) or 30 September 2011 for other quarterly series. The tables include information on new house building and public sector house sales.

2 February 2012

  • Revised figures for eviction actions against local authority tenants for 2010-11 published. This includes revised data on the number of evictions, dwellings abandoned following decree, technical evictions and the number of cases resulting in an eviction order. Revised figures were submitted by East Ayrshire council to replace incorrect figures originally submitted for the Housing Statistics for Scotland 2011: Key Trends Summary. Relevant tables updated are Social Sector Housing tables and Evictions tables .

11 January 2012

15 December 2011

  • Change of publication month for next quarterly update of housing statistics. The quarterly housing statistics update which has in previous years been published in February will now be published in March 2012. This is due to technical issues with the data processing system. This change has been agreed by the Chief Statistician and is in keeping with the Statistics Code of Practice.

29 November 2011

  • Web tables updated to end September 2011 (for social sector new build and affordable housing quarterly series) or 30 June 2011 for other quarterly series. The tables include information on new house building and public sector house sales.

27 September 2011

30 August 2011

  • Publication of Housing Statistics for Scotland 2011: Key Trends Summary. All web tables updated to 2010-11 (for annual data) or to end June 2011 (for social sector new build and affordable housing quarterly series) or 31 March 2011 for other quarterly series. The tables include information on new house building, public sector house sales, local authority lettings and evictions, public sector stock and vacancy rates, supported social sector housing, local authority housing lists, houses in multiple occupancy (HMO) and scheme of assistance.

18 March 2011

  • The Scottish Government has published new official statistics on the number of households on social housing lists. These were obtained from an Omnibus Survey carried out by Ipsos-Mori and provide an estimate which eliminates the double counting included in administrative data. They are an update to the statistics published in December 2010. The excel tables can be accessed through the following link: Housing Lists: Survey Statistics 2011.
