Early Destinations of Qualifiers 2009-10
The percentage of qualifiers from higher education courses at Scottish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that were in employment or further study/training 6 months after completing their course fell 0.5 percentage points from 88.4% in 2008-09 to 87.9% in 2009-10.
Of the qualifiers from Scottish HEIs, 63.8% were in permanent or temporary UK employment 6 months after completing their course. A further 19.8% were engaged in further study or training, whilst 6.4% were believed to be unemployed. It was also found that 73.6% of those who found permanent UK employment were employed in graduate level occupations.
Of the qualifiers in permanent UK or overseas employment, the proportion employed in Scotland has decreased slightly, by 1.9 percentage points, from 80.5% in 2008-09 to 78.6% in 2009-10. Additionally, 90.3% of Scots qualifiers who found permanent employment did so within Scotland, representing a 2.2 percentage point decrease on the 2008-09 figure (92.5%).
In 2009-10, 63.1% of students graduating from a Scottish Higher Education Institution ended up in a positive destination 6 months after graduating, compared to 66.5% in 2008-09. In 2002-03, 61.5% of graduates were in positive destinations 6 months after graduating. During the following 3 years this proportion rose to 70.0% in 2005-06 and then 70.3% in 2006-07. The proportion of graduates in positive destinations then declined each year: to 63.1% in 2009-10.
